Automated outputs may be incomplete, inaccurate, outdated, or unsuitable for your preferences, household, ingredients, equipment, allergies, dietary restrictions, health needs, or situation. You are responsible for reviewing recipes, ingredients, labels, instructions, substitutions, grocery items, cooking steps, and meal plans before relying on them.
6. How We Share Information
We share information only as reasonably needed to operate HappyChef, provide requested features, support subscriptions, comply with law, protect users and the service, or support business operations.
6.1 Service Providers
We may share information with service providers that perform services for us, such as:
- hosting, database, storage, infrastructure, and security providers
- account authentication and sign-in providers
- subscription, purchase validation, and entitlement providers
- analytics, diagnostics, crash reporting, and performance providers
- push notification and messaging providers
- email, support, feedback, and customer communication providers
- recipe import, image handling, automation, and product-quality tools
- advertising, attribution, or campaign measurement providers if those features are enabled
These providers are expected to use information only to provide services to us or as otherwise permitted by law.
6.2 Friends, Sharing, and Household Features
If you use friend, sharing, profile, recipe-sharing, or household features, information may be shared with other users according to your actions and settings. This may include your username, email address for account lookup or invitations, profile information, shared recipes, meal-planning content, grocery content, dietary preferences, household preferences, and other content you choose to share or allow to be shared.
6.3 Legal, Safety, and Business Transfers
We may disclose information if we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to comply with law, regulation, legal process, or a valid government request; protect the rights, safety, property, users, or security of HappyChef or others; investigate fraud, abuse, or violations of our terms; or support a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, sale of assets, or similar business transaction.
6.4 Advertising, Attribution, and Analytics
If advertising, attribution, campaign measurement, or similar tools are enabled, we may process app usage, device, advertising-related, or campaign-related identifiers to measure performance, understand campaigns, limit fraud, improve the service, or show ads where permitted by law and your device settings.
6.5 Sale of Personal Information
We do not sell personal information for money. Some privacy laws define "sale," "sharing," or "targeted advertising" broadly. If any current or future advertising, analytics, or attribution activity is considered a sale, sharing, or targeted advertising under applicable law, we will handle it as required by that law and any choices available through the app, website, or your device settings.
7. Third-Party Recipe Sources and Links
HappyChef may let you import recipes from third-party websites or save content from outside sources. When you import a recipe, we may process the URL, page content, image content, recipe text, metadata, and related information needed to create, organize, store, improve, and display the recipe in HappyChef.
Third-party websites, platforms, recipes, products, links, stores, and services have their own terms and privacy practices. We do not control and are not responsible for those third-party services.
8. Data Retention
We keep information for as long as reasonably needed to provide HappyChef, maintain your account, operate subscriptions, support recipe and meal-planning features, preserve security, debug issues, improve the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, enforce agreements, and maintain business records.
Retention periods may vary depending on the type of information, how it is used, whether your account remains active, whether the information is part of shared or household content, whether it is needed for legal or security reasons, and whether it exists in backups, logs, analytics, or support records.
When information is no longer reasonably needed, we may delete, de-identify, aggregate, or otherwise limit it according to our business, legal, security, and technical needs.
9. Account Deletion and Your Choices
You may use our account deletion request page or contact us at [email protected] to request access to, correction of, export of, or deletion of personal information associated with your HappyChef account. We may ask you to verify your identity before acting on a request. If you use Sign in with Apple and Hide My Email, verification may require the Apple private relay email address associated with your HappyChef account or your HappyChef username.
Deleting your HappyChef account does not automatically cancel a subscription billed through an app store or payment platform. If you have an active subscription and do not want future renewal charges, you should also cancel the subscription through the store or platform that billed you.
If you delete your account, we will delete, de-identify, or restrict personal information associated with your account, or anonymize your account so it is no longer reasonably linked to you, within 30 days after verification where feasible. We may retain limited information where needed for legitimate business, legal, tax, accounting, security, fraud-prevention, backup, dispute-resolution, service-quality, or recordkeeping purposes.
Some content may remain available if it is part of shared, social, or household features, if another user has access to it through their own account or settings, if it has been de-identified or aggregated, or if retention is otherwise allowed or required by law.
You can also control some information and privacy choices directly in the app, including profile details, sharing settings, recipe visibility, notification permissions, and device-level permissions.
10. Notifications and Device Settings
If you allow notifications, we may send account, meal-planning, grocery, recipe, reminder, service, or promotional notifications. You can control notification permissions through your device settings and, where available, in-app settings.
Your device may provide settings related to analytics, advertising identifiers, tracking permissions, notifications, and other permissions. The availability and effect of those settings depend on your device, operating system, app store, and applicable law.
11. Children
HappyChef is not directed to children under 13 to create their own accounts, or under any higher minimum age required by applicable law where the user lives.
A parent, guardian, household organizer, or other authorized user may enter household information, preferences, dietary notes, servings, or similar planning details for people in their household. If you add information about another person, including a child or household member, you represent that you have the right to do so.
If you believe a child has provided personal information to us without appropriate permission, contact us at [email protected].
12. International Processing
HappyChef may be operated, supported, and processed in the United States and other locations where we or our service providers operate. Privacy and data protection laws may differ from those in your location. By using HappyChef, you understand that your information may be processed in these locations subject to applicable law.
13. Security
We use reasonable technical, administrative, and organizational measures designed to protect information. These measures may include access controls, authentication controls, encryption, monitoring, backups, logging, and security reviews.
No method of transmission, processing, or storage is perfectly secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
14. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, objection, withdrawal of consent, or other privacy choices. You may also have rights related to certain advertising, analytics, or targeted advertising activities.
To make a privacy request, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond as required by applicable law. We may need to verify your identity and may decline a request where allowed by law.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights provided by applicable law.
15. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, services, technology, legal requirements, or business operations. If we make changes, we will post the updated Privacy Policy and update the "Last updated" date. If required by law, we will provide additional notice.
